Tribal Society in a Flux

Raika as the a migratory community of north western In- dia, has in the past, been studied along with other communities by several scholors. These studies, however, concentrate on one or the other aspects of Raika like their religious beliefs, political in- fluences, market economy or eco- nomic and ecological aspects. But there has been no such ethno- graphic study, which covers all aspects of Raika like their social, cultural, religious health and hygine, migration conflict resolu- tion, economy, ecology and de- velopment. The present book is an attempt to fill this gap.

Humanization of knowledge is an essential aspect of research whether in natural sciences or in social sciences. We must be able to apply accumulated knowledge for the betterment of humanity. It is with this understanding that an integral approach has been taken for the study of Raika as a migratory tribal community. A holistic view has been adopted to study this group so that it may facilitate the government and those interested in their socio- economic progress, to prepare plans of action for their develop- ment.
